About Us

The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria’s (FIGR) Education Department provides multiple educational programing and services that support FIGR Tribal citizens, Tribal TANF of Sonoma and Marin and California Native communities. The Education Department provides both in-person and remote educational services.
University of California Scholarship

FIGR UC Scholarship

The scholarship is limited to the following educational institutions: UC Berkely, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Los Angeles, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz

FIGR’s University of California Scholarship (UC Scholarship) provides in-state Tuition and Student Service Fees for students who are California Native Americans but not members of a federally recognized Tribe. This scholarship applies to undergraduate and graduate students for professional and non-professional degrees.

Higher Education

Supplemental Higher Education Program

(for non-enrolled lineal FIGR descendants)

The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria Tribal Council has established the Supplemental Higher Education Scholarship Program (the “Program”) for individuals that meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • A minor at any time during the period of January 1, 2002, through April 22, 2003, and would have been eligible for enrollment as a FIGR Citizen but your enrolled parent or enrolled grandparent failed to enroll you before the rolls closed on April 22, 2003
  • Any age during the period of January 1, 2002, through April 22, 2003, and would have been eligible for enrollment as a FIGR Citizen but you were adopted out of the Tribal community

Youth Education

FIGR-Citizen Youth Programs

The Youth Education Assistance Programs consists of Tutoring, Youth Activity, and Childcare & Early Education. The Youth Education Assistance Programs enacted through the Education Department, provides support for citizens who are enrolled in educational programs and ancillary activities. These programs serve to enrich the lives of the youth citizens by providing them access to monetary benefits.

The Education Department will aid in the completion of a well-rounded education for FIGR youth. The Youth programs also encourage social development, including the utilization of academic support and engagement in youth activities, as a vital step toward self-sufficiency and success in adulthood. The focus on academic support for retention of all high school students to reach graduation is a top priority for the Education Department.

  • Youth Activities Program: Youth citizens aged 5-18 years old have access to limited funds for eligible activities per calendar year.
  • Youth Tutoring Program: Youth citizens aged 5-18 years old have access to funding for subject based tutoring offered through a licensed tutor or tutoring services. This program can also be used for reimbursement of approved college application fees and AP testing fees.
  • Childcare and Early Education Program: Youth citizens aged 0-12 years old have access to funding for childcare or early education offered through licensed daycare center, before or after school program, preschool, TK program, or kindergarten.

  • Precollegiate Support: The Education Department supports students in the early stages of college exploration, resume/CV building, FAFSA support and assembling applications to university or vocational institutions.
  • Financial Literacy and Tribal History Classes: The Education Department provides mandatory classes for Tribal youth citizens ages 17-18 years old.
